We use them at least twice a day, which is reason enough to make sure they stay in good working conditions for as long as possible. Whether it’s your patio door or your front door, maintenance is quite simple. Follow these tips based on the kind of door you need to maintain.

FRONT DOOR

1. The door leaf: two to three times a year

To maintain your front door itself—the door leaf—follow these three easy steps:

  1. Scrub it with a mild soap solution. The pH should be between 5 and 8, as with dishwashing liquid.
  2. Rinse it with clean water.
  3. Wipe it down with an absorbent soft cloth.

Avoid corrosive products at all cost, as they can damage the surface of your doors, no matter how pale or dark the colour.

How often you should clean your doors depends on where you live: thrice a year if you’re in the city, twice a year if you’re in the countryside.

2. The hardware: a quick cleaning several times a year

Clean the hardware several times a year in order to keep it shiny. As with your door panel, soapy water and a soft cloth are all you need. Then rinse it out with cold water. Remember to clean and lubricate the lock as well with a specially adapted product once or twice a year.

3. The sealing joints: once or twice a year

The sealing joints play a major role in keeping your door waterproof. Since they’re so essential, it’s important you inspect them once or twice a year. If the sealant is coming undone, you’ll need to replace it right away. Feel free to ask one of our specialists what you should do next.

THE PATIO DOOR

1. The frames: once or twice a year

In general, patio doorframes are made of either aluminum or PVC. These materials are a breeze to clean. Wipe them down with a clean cloth, lukewarm water, and mild soap.

2. The mechanical hardware: once or twice a year

Vaillancourt Doors and Windows patio frames and panels are either assembled mechanically or fusion welded to make them thoroughly waterproof. To maintain the hardware, metallic pieces and the weather-stripping, we recommend using a silicone-based lubricant, once or twice a year.

3. Glass panels: five to ten times a year

You can use glass-specific cleaning products. If you prefer an eco-friendly option, dilute white vinegar in a bucket of water and use a sponge to clean the glass. Then wipe it dry with a delicate cloth. Even better, grab a microfibre cloth and use it to get into all the corners and edges.

All Vaillancourt doors and windows come with a warranty against material and manufacturing defects. If you still have questions or concerns, contact us as soon as possible so we can address the issue as per your warranty terms and conditions.
