Is your power bill too high? Do you want to reduce your energy consumption? If you’re concerned about your environmental footprint – and your wallet – then the Rénoclimat program is for you!

Rénoclimat is a government program operated by Transition énergétique Québec (Energy Transition Québec). It provides financial assistance towards the completion of renovations on a building envelope or the mechanical systems used in a dwelling. Its purpose is to encourage homeowners to make their houses more energy efficient.

The replacement of doors, windows and skylights is listed as eligible work in the program guidelines. Effective May 1, 2024, the grant amount will be increasing to $150 per rough opening in walls or the roof. Certain eligibility conditions apply as follows:

  • Products must be ENERGY STAR®
  • Products must be installed in an existing opening.
  • Replacements of only the glass, sash or door without a frame are not eligible.

Here are the steps to follow for first-time applicants:

  1. Fill out the online form (available in French only) on the Transition énergétique Québec website, and an advisor will call to schedule an appointment.
  2. An energy advisor will come conduct a pre-retrofit energy evaluation of your home and send you an evaluation report.
  3. Proceed with the renovations following the recommendations in the report.
  4. Request an appointment for a post-retrofit energy evaluation.
  5. If you’re eligible, your cheque for Rénoclimat financial assistance will be mailed to you 10 to 12 weeks later.

Note that there is a fee of $150 plus taxes for the first pre-retrofit energy evaluation. This fee is reimbursed if you are eligible for financial assistance under the program. The first post-retrofit energy evaluation is free. You may participate in the Rénoclimat program more than once for the same home.

With all these potential savings, there’s no need to skimp when it comes to your comfort. Contact us! Our professionals are here to guide you in selecting your doors and windows as well as provide additional information on the various programs.
